You do not have to have an Amateur Radio License to be part of the Skywarn team. There are plenty of things you can do without it, such as helping with
monitoring and reporting. We accomplish this with inhouse software both desktop and web that connects you with all the team members during a
Skywarn Net, so you do not have to broadcast in order to communicate with the Team.
If you are a repeater owner and wish to join up with the network, it would be best to contact us (see below) to be sure that your
system is compatible with the APHRN system structure before you link to it.

What you will need to have is the following: Please note that you can still join up without them, but will need to acquire them.
- Certification of Spotter Course from the National Weather Service. You can do this online in just a few hours
- Reliable Internet connection as fast as possible
- Battery backups for computers (more than one is preferred) and reliable internet connection
- Ability to multitask when required
- Complete the Skywarn Net Training courses you are interested in
Those interested in being Net Controllers should also include:
- Excellent time management skills
- Experience in running nets
- Complete Net Controller Training (webinar and/or online)
- Adhere to the Arkansas Public Heath Radio Network guidelines
